The plane had landed right on time and Jeff checked the arrival screen to make sure he was waiting at the right terminal. It had been close to half an hour and still no sign of the boys. Jeff smiled as he thought back on the last time he'd seen them, smiling and laughing as they'd left for Tahiti. Despite the fact that Jared and Jen weren't really his sons, he'd felt quite proud standing up for the both of them at their commitment ceremony three weeks ago. They had waited to make such a public commitment to each other until the show was done and had done it up right. They'd had a huge ceremony in Vancouver where they were both living almost full time by then in a shared downtown condo. Immediately following the 'party of the century' as Rosenbaum had called it, Jared and Jensen had taken off for a three week honeymoon to Tahiti, just the two of them.
Jeff checked his watch again, noting that almost forty five minutes had passed now and still no sign of them. No one had heard from them since they'd left and Jeff hoped their travel arrangements hadn't changed. Surely one of them would've called him, he thought to himself. Just then, he spotted Jared's tall form walking towards him and Jensen right beside him, loaded down with luggage and bags and two babies-Wait. TWO BABIES?
Jeff barely had time to pick his jaw up off the floor before the two grinning men were standing in front of him.
"Hey Jeff," Jared said, bouncing one of the most adorable babies Jeff had ever seen in his long arms. "Want you to meet the newest editions to the Ackles-Padalecki tribe. This," He said, holding the baby up a little higher, "is Trystan Ross. That," he said, motioning to the slumbering baby in Jensen's arms, "Is Samantha Mackenzie." Jeff, try as he might, couldn't manage to get any words out that even remotely resembled English. Jared smiled at the baby - Trystan - in his arms before smiling at Jeff again, while Jensen slowly rocked and cooed at Samantha.
"I know, man," Jared started, absently letting Trystan wrap a tiny finger around his thumb "We were just going on our honeymoon but. Well. Truth is. The last week and a half, we've been in Somalia, adopting these two. We kinda wanted to surprise everyone so we've been keeping quiet about it," Jared said, watching Jeff's face with amusement.
Jeff finally managed to get his tongue and brain to work together.
"T-that's great, guys! Congratulations!" He said, gently touching the top of Trystan's head. The baby turned his head to look at Jeff, big brown eyes taking him in blearily. Jared leaned down and kissed him and his eyes slipped closed.
"Jeff, man," Jensen said, tone soft so as not to wake Samantha. "I know you're shocked but we've been on an airplane with two two-month-old infants for hours and hours. Kinda wanna get somewhere and sleep for a week."
Jeff nodded and got them to his waiting car as fast as he could, helping them once they got there to adjust the car seats they'd somehow managed to bring back with them. Jensen sat in the back with the twins while Jared gave him the details of the adoption as Jeff drove. A friend of a friend had been talking to them at a network party right before Supernatural ended and mentioned this adoption agency they'd gone through that dealt with Somalian refugee orphans and Jared and Jensen had found themselves interested. The commitment ceremony was already in place at that time and Jensen had been the one to ask Jared if it was ok if he called the agency to see about maybe putting an adoption in the works.
About a month before the commitment ceremony, they'd gotten a call that they had a set of twins for them if they were interested, a boy and a girl. "And that was kinda it," Jared said, glancing back at his now sleeping husband and babies.
"We changed our honeymoon plans a bit and went to pick them up. And now we're home," Jared finished, looking tired but happy.
"So no one knows?" Jeff asked, taking the exit to the place Jared still had in LA. Jared flushed a little in the dim interior of the car.
"Um, not really. We didn't want anyone else's advice or ideas or anything. This is something Jen and I wanted, just for ourselves," Jared said, turning to look at Jeff. "It's our family and our life. And we want those two to be a part of it. We'll deal with everything else together. It'll work out."
Jeff watched Jared look back at his sleeping family once more, watched his face light up with love and knew that Jared was right.
