It's been years since he's left California, in fact, he's pretty much lived in California since the death of his grandfather, and it's been damn near three years since he left Huntington Beach. Yet here he is at the airport in Vancouver, his carry-on at his feet, looking around for the driver Mike was supposed to send for him. When he spots the large sign that says, "Lex Luthor's Precious Jenny" his eyes narrow. How many times has he TOLD Mike about calling him that? He is not a girl, dammit!
He decides to forgo the driver Mike sent. He walks over to the driver and tells him he won't be needing his services. The driver shrugs, he's getting paid either way, and takes off. Jensen then heads toward the car rental place he sees just a little walk down from the airport. He shivers a little in the weather, it's so much cooler here than in Huntington Beach. He rents a car for a few days, and instead of heading to the address Mike gave him, he decides he's going to see someone he hasn't seen in close to three years, because he at least owes Jared an explanation face-to-face. Three years of a few scattered emails and calls every other week obviously shows that Jared's a loyal friend, even if Jensen did make an ass of himself at Jared's wedding.
It takes him nearly an hour to find Jay's home, a modest two-story home with hedges, a nice lawn, and even a damn picket fence, all the comforts of a Southern upbringing in good old Canada. Jensen smiles at the irony of that as he parks the car out in the driveway, takes a few deep breaths to compose himself and walks up to the door.
He runs a hand down his shirt, smoothing away non-existent wrinkles, raises his hand to knock on the door, and a few minutes later a skinny blonde guy with a bottle of Corona in his hand answers the door. Jensen looks the guy up and down, recognizes him, but he's not sure from where. The guy has a smile on his face and then calls back into the house.
"Hey, Jay, Sandy, ya'll got comp'ny. Looks like some kind of travelin' salesman or something."
A few minutes later a giggly Sandy and a smiling Jared come to the door. As soon as their sights land on Jensen Sandy's laughter dies down, and Jared's eyes widen in surprise. The blonde looks from Sandy and Jared to Jensen, wondering what exactly he's missing.
"Jared, Sandy, looks like I was wrong. You two still look so good together," Jensen says, as he swallows thickly, and then he turns to head back to his rental car, wondering what in the hell he was thinking.
He's made it to the car, he's just about to get in, forget this whole idea about being a man and facing up to his past when his phone starts vibrating and saying the strangest thing.
"Hello, this is God calling, we need to talk about last weekend. You've been a very naughty girl, Jenny."
Jensen's grip tightens on the door handle and he's mentally going over several ways to kill Michael fucking Rosenbaum, who is an evil fucker and truly deserves whatever fate and Jensen's murderous temper have in store for him. Jensen is startled out of his thoughts as a large, familiar hand drops on his shoulder. He jumps, suddenly remembering where he is.
He turns around to see Jared with a small grin on his face and a sparkle in his eyes, and Jensen can remember why it was so easy to fall for this very tall, overgrown puppy of a man, as Jared says, "Wow, God sounds a lot like Lex Luthor. And what's up with last weekend, Jenny?"
Jared actually chuckles at that, and Jensen rolls his eyes and shoves Jared's shoulder playfully, like old times. "Fuck you man, you know I hate when people call me that."
"But if God can do it, then I can too right?" Jay asks, and then he fixes Jensen with those damn puppy eyes, and Jensen suddenly remembers just how lethal that damn look is.
"I would hardly call Michael fucking Rosenbaum God," Jensen replies, and then he looks past Jared and toward the house. "So I know all about your wife, so how about you tell me about the new guy."
Jared turns to look and sees that they are being watched. "How about you come on up to the house and I'll introduce you to my onscreen big brother Dean, otherwise known as Shawn Reaves, and we can have a beer and maybe catch up. What do you say?"
Jensen gives a small nod, claps Jared on the back, and while they aren't quite back to how things used to be, it's not awkward, and while he may still love Jared, things have changed for the both of them, and maybe God, or Lex Luthor, or Michael fucking Rosenbaum has a lot to do with that. All he knows is that he'll be calling Mikey later. For now he just prays that Jay won't ask too many questions about how he spent last weekend, then of course his phone goes off again in Mike's voice.
"Attention incoming call from your mother. Pick up the phone."
Jensen pulls his I-phone out of his pocket and sees Kane flashing on the screen. He shakes his head with a small grin. Wait till he tells Chris how Mikey refers to him. Maybe he won't be the one killing Mikey after all…
End.
