Part 1

Chris couldn't seem to wipe the smirk off his face. Eric was finally right about something. Every person in that ring was unhappy to see Shawn Michaels announced as the guest referee for the chamber match. Of course, some of them were going to be more unhappy with it than the others. Chris had to bite his tongue not to laugh at Trips over-dramatized screaming of the word "No!" Jericho figured that's probably the first time he's ever said no to anything. That more than anything is why he couldn't get rid of that smirk. He also couldn't figure out why Trips wasn't happy about it being Shawn. Last he'd heard the two of them were lovers. Something was definitely not right here. Maybe Shawn had finally wised up where Hunter was concerned. Then again, maybe it was just an elaborate setup to make the rest of them think they stood a chance in the Elimination Chamber.

He just couldn't leave it alone. Why else would he be standing outside the hotel room door belonging to Shawn Michaels at 1 A.M.? It was pretty much well known in the fed that the two of them couldn't be in the same room for five minutes without going at it. It had made for one hell of a feud once upon a time, but now it tended to make everyone caught in the same place with the two of them jumpy. Of course only a few people knew the reasons behind the animosity and neither Chris nor Shawn had talked about it. People had talked about their chemistry in the ring together though. That chemistry resulted in what most considered to be the best match at Wrestlemania 19. The only question everyone had wondered over though was the delivery of the low-blow by Chris after the match. Chris tended to keep his emotions tightly in check. People had to wonder what had broken through that tight reign for him to lose enough control to let it get personal. As far as Chris was concerned, they could think about it all they wanted to, but he'd be damned before he admitted to anyone why he had felt it was justified.

Looking back at it now, Chris realized that that retaliatory blow just might come back to bite him in the ass and cost him the title at the pay per view. That was part of his reason for this late night visit. Maybe if he apologized for his actions, Shawn would see fit to actually give him a fair shot in this. IF… and that was a big if, Shawn wasn't still caught up in Hunter's clutches. There was only one way to find out, and standing here staring at the door wasn't getting it done. Chris raised his fist and knocked on the door with three short raps. He was just about to turn and leave when he heard footsteps crossing the room to the door. As the door swung open he pasted a neutral expression on his face and waited for the obvious question.

"What in the hell do you want, Jericho?" Obviously Shawn wasn't thrilled to see him standing at his door.

"I was hoping we could talk. Clear a few things up between us." He knew it wasn't going to be easy, but he'd jump on the fast train to hell before he begged Shawn for anything. The best he could do was keep this as civil as possible and hope that would be enough.

"Welcome to my lair, said the spider to the fly." Shawn opened the door wide and gestured with his arm for Chris to enter the room.

"Very cute, Michaels." Chris smirked as he strolled into the room. "If you plan to eat me, I hope you'll at least make sure I enjoy it." As he turned back to look at him, he saw Shawn roll his eyes at him as he pushed the door shut.

"Can the flirting Jericho. You want to get to the point? I've had a long day and I'd like to sleep sometime tonight." Chris let out a small huff. How could Shawn even think he'd flirt with him after what had happened in the past? He wasn't a glutton for punishment. Chris dropped gracefully into a chair next to the table.

"Like I'd even consider flirting with you Michaels. Especially after what happened last…" No! He wasn't going to let Shawn know that it had affected him. At least not any more than he had to to get what he wanted. "What I wanted to know, is if you jumped back into Hunter's bed as soon as you got back. Unless he's hiding in the closet, he's obviously not here. So that answers that question. Unless he just hasn't shown up yet tonight? "

Shawn was struggling not to let his mouth drop open. He walked over to the bed and dropped down so he was laying on his side with his head propped up on his hand. He raised his eyebrow and heavy on the drawl he replied, "Why would you care whose bed I'm gracing Chris? I hardly consider it your business." The nerve of some people!

Chris was frozen in his seat. Even though their past should have prevented Chris from appreciating the sight in front of him, he couldn't deny that Shawn's casual pose on the bed was affecting him. Hell! Anytime he pictured Shawn and a bed at the same time, it was enough to make his whole body ache. Right now there was a certain part of him that was starting to ache, that was for sure. Damn. Why had he worn such tight jeans? He really hoped Shawn wouldn't notice the huge erection he was now sporting.

"Of course it's my business!" He sputtered. "Just like it's the business of every guy in the chamber match! Look Shawn. I don't really care who you are doing. I just want to know if I actually have a chance at that title or if you plan to screw us all and help Hunter win it back. If you're in his pocket, so to speak, I'm not going to put my body on the line, killing myself for your enjoyment. If I've actually got a shot at it, you know I'll give it everything I've got."

Shawn gave a short bark of laughter. "Gee, and here I thought you actually cared Jericho."

Shawn's flippant response was enough to make Chris see red. He stood up and stormed towards the door. "I should have known I couldn't get an honest response from you Michaels. Thanks for wasting my time."

" Oh would you shut up and sit down. I'll give you an answer. I just love watching you get all fired up." Shawn managed to hold in his laughter at the glare that Chris gave him. He waited for Chris to sit back down before he continued, "Hunter and I haven't been together, at least in the sense you are talking about, for a few years now. The last time we were together like that was around the time I was the Commish. You do remember the feud we had a while back, don't you? That fighting between us? All real. I don't tend to fuck someone I'm fighting with. As a matter of fact, that whole feud started because I refused to jump back into his bed when I returned. He talked to Vince about us playing out an angle where we were fighting. By the time the "angle" was over, we were barely speaking to each other. He couldn't stand the fact that part of the reason I came back was because I was interested in someone besides him."

Chris's mouth dropped open in shock. He couldn't believe Shawn was lying to him! He couldn't control the biting tone of his voice when he replied, "Don't bother lying Michaels. I know better. Have you forgotten that you sent Hunter along with your reply to my letter? Not only did he tell me exactly what you thought of me, he took great pleasure in informing me that I never stood a chance because you were fucking him and that wasn't going to change. I can't believe I was considering apologizing for the things I said to you and for giving you that nut-shot. You deserved both. If you plan to lie, at least remember who it is you are lying to." He stood up to leave, but as he passed the bed, Shawn grabbed his arm and turned him to face him.

"Wait!" Chris tried to jerk his arm free, but after the questions Shawn asked next, he stopped trying. "What the hell are you talking about? What letter?"
