Chapter One

She curled up sitting on the floor with her knees drawn up to her chest, tears running down her face as harsh words vibrated through her head and her heart shattered over and over until she was fairly certain there was nothing left to it. She wished that were the truth. She wished that she could be like some people and simply grow numb from the pain and not feel anymore, but that had never been her nature. Instead she seemed to always live her pain over and over until she was too exhausted to think anymore or until something came along to distract her from it. She didn't hear the door open or the man come in. For someone of his height and size he was an amazingly quiet man, so when his hand touched her shoulder she jumped. "Jesus you scared me," she gasped putting a hand on her chest and looked up into the dark, concerned eyes of her brother. "Anas, what's wrong?" he asked, his deep voice rumbling with exhaustion.

She'd known he would be tired. She knew this would be a bad time to show up when she'd let herself into his home. It was Tuesday and he'd been overseas for a week. He'd gotten back into the country just in time for Raw the day before and now he needed nothing more than sleep, but… she needed him. He was all that she had in the world. She opened her mouth to respond, to say something that would let him sleep and leave her problems 'til later, but the pain reemerged ruthlessly like the cocksucking bastard who had broken her heart. Quickly she shattered again only this time she found strong arms wrapped around her as her brother's soft voice whispered in her ear. "It'll be alright, Little Anas," he said and picking her up, carried her to his room where he placed her carefully on the bed then curled up in a chair falling quickly asleep.

Several hours later Anastasia opened her eyes and saw her brother snoring softly in his sleep in the chair by the bed. In all fairness it wasn't really snoring, it was more like a soft growl. It shouldn't be surprising that her intense brother even growled in his sleep, but it always made her smile nonetheless. Climbing out of bed she crossed to the chair and leaned over to whisper in his ear. "Dave, wake up and go to the bed." Nudging him forward Anas smiled as he stood sleepily and stumbled into the bed where she pulled the covers over him then left shutting the door behind her.

Sighing Anas moved through the house touching things as she went before making her way to the kitchen to see if there was anything to feed him when he woke up. Opening the refrigerator door she grimaced seeing bottled water, vegetables that were more liquid than solid, and a pizza box that she wasn't about to open. Cleaning out the rotten veggies and pizza box she threw them in a garbage bag then after getting the coffee maker ready for when Dave woke up grabbed his keys and left in search of food.

A couple hours later Anastasia pushed the front door open with her foot, her arms straining from all the grocery bags hanging off them. Making her way into the kitchen she sighed seeing her brother glaring evilly at the coffee maker as it dripped its black sustenance slowly into the pot. "Growling at it won't make the coffee come out faster," she offered grunting when he didn't even turn his head. "Nah I don't need help with the groceries. Don't worry about it." She shot out putting the bags on the counter and shook her head as he responded with, "good," as she went to get the rest of the bags.

As she put the food away, Dave sat quietly at the table drinking his coffee and eating the Take 5 candy bars that she's bought him. "So whose ass do I get to kick?" Anas sighed and shot her brother a look before turning back to the food. "Let it go, Dave." At the table, Dave scowled as he looked at his coffee. "He obviously hurt you, why are you protecting him?" Putting the jar of spaghetti sauce in the cabinet Anas paused and shrugged before moving on. "I'm not protecting him. I just don't want you goin' around beatin' people up. Besides he isn't anywhere that you can get to him anyway." Dave arched his eyebrow at the comment knowing that she was lying, but before he could answer, the phone rang. Looking down at it, he sighed. "I don't wanna talk to Randy." He handed his phone to Anas, trying to look charming. "See what he wants?"

Anas opened the flip phone to answer trying not to smile at his antics. "Only if you get that look off your face… you look demented." She heard Randy giggle on the other end of the line and reply, "But he IS demented!" Smiling fondly Anas grabbed a Pepsi and a glass of ice, then sat down across from her brother stealing one of his candy bars. "Hey brat, Big and Growly wants to know what you want."

Randy wrinkled his nose and played with the pillow in his lap before answering. "If I had known you were there I woulda just called you. You're a chick, you would have a better idea what to do than doofus. I need love advice." Anas sighed and rubbed the back of her neck. "I don't know as I am the best one to be giving love advice right now, Randy." Randy frowned staring at his TV without really seeing the show that was playing. "Ain't love advice exactly. I'm just worried about Jay and Chris." Anas looked at her brother who was watching her curiously. "What's wrong with J and C?" She asked not terribly familiar with the two men, but knew enough to know that her brother liked them.

"I dunno, all they do is fight these days. I'm worried about them. They've been together forever and have been friends for longer, but if they keep goin' this way they ain't gonna last much longer. They're my best friends and I wanna do something, but I don't know what. Jay's been sayin' lately that he should just dump Chris but… damnit Anas that would be a crappy idea! They're perfect for each other."

Anas smiled at Randy, glad he couldn't see her. He had quite the romantic side and wasn't surprised in the least that he was trying to play peacemaker. "Are they fighting about big things or little things?" Randy was quiet for a few moments then responded with a simple, "little things I guess," and Anas frowned considering the problem. "My guess would be that there's something bigger going on. Have you asked either of them if everything is ok?"

Randy scrunched up his face at her suggestion. "Anas, I'm a guy. We don't talk about our feelings remember?" Anas had to shake her head. "SOME men do Randy, just not little rednecks like you." On the other end of the line Randy pouted and muttered, "Ain't little," and that time Anas had to laugh. "OK how about this, my calendar is suddenly free. I'll con big and growly into taking me with him when he goes back to work and I'll see what I can do ok?" Smiling big Randy nodded fast forgetting she couldn't see him. "Thanks Anas!!" Looking at her brother's frown Anas said her goodbyes to Randy then ended the call. "I know you don't like me at work with you Dave, but… I need to be with you," she said softly and Dave narrowed his eyes again before agreeing, but promised himself that he was gonna find out who had broken his little sister's heart and kill the motherfucker.

"Goddamnit Jay how many fucking times do I have to fuckin' ask you to put the CD's back in their fuckin' cases when you're done?" In the bathroom Jay growled picking up a soggy towel from the floor and hung it over the towel bar. "Oh, that's rich for a fucktard that can't remember how to use a fuckin' towel bar. It's real simple Chris you slide one end of the towel between the bar and the wall then let the other end fall over the other side of the bar. Then the towel MAGICALLY hangs in air and dries."

Jay turned to see Chris standing in the doorway waving a CD at him. "You're sarcasm is not nearly as cute as it used to be Jason." Chris growled and Jay gritted his teeth. "You are one to talk about sarcasm fucknut. Do you know how to speak without using it? Or does Dwayney still like it?" Jay watched Chris' jaw work as he glared at him. "Not nearly as much as Tomko likes fucking you I hear." Jay paled and his jaw fell open, his eyes filling with tears. "One of these days Chris you will trust me, but unfortunately for you by then I'll be gone." Shoving past Chris, Jay grabbed the bags still by the door and the keys to his car off the peg and slammed out of the house. Looking down at the CD in his hands Chris broke it in two then stomped off to find his phone. Jay was a fool. "Maybe Adam is right," Chris muttered to himself punching in Adam's number. "Maybe I picked the wrong blonde Canadian."

Anastasia woke up suddenly sitting up in the bed in the guest room, wondering what had woken her up. Listening carefully she finally heard sounds like moans and cries. Getting up she hurried to her brother's room to see the sheets tangled around his legs and him thrashing about in bed. "Please, Sean, please I'm sorry." Sighing heavily Anas walked in and pulled the chair closer to the bed taking her brother's much bigger hand into hers and waited for him to wake up from his nightmare.
