Chapter Five
Traitors in Disguise
Erratically he paced the small area his eyes on the small child sitting calmly on the floor. Gritting his teeth hard enough that it made them and his jaw ache he sank his fingers into his hair pulling hard enough so that when he pulled them away several long blonde strands clung to them. "You're gonna go bald if you don't knock that off Chico and you're gonna have enough problems with that as it is." Turning the half gargoyle man looked at one of his wolf partners and snarled angrily. "He's up to something I know it!"
Scott put down the paper he had been reading and looked at the child then back to Paul. "You are crazier then that fuckin' bitch of yours. He's a child. He ain't doing crap. Kev has him neutralized so cool your jets stone boy." Growling Paul shook his head and lunged at the blonde baby on the floor. Picking him up Paul shook the baby roughly making him cry as his head bounced around on his shoulders like a ping pong ball. Just as Scott reached Paul's side to save the baby Kevin stormed in with Sean and Peter on his heels. The youngest two members of the pack and still mortal, Sean and Peter looked at each other worried.
Kevin yanked the baby out of Paul's hands ordering him out to the roof tops. "The sun is going to be coming up soon bitch and I don't want your ass in the middle of my way all day again!" Bristling Paul growled lowly at Kevin and would have lunged at him if his lover Shawn hadn't run in just them pulling him out of them room. Scott turned and looked at the mortal boys then to Kevin. "Who is gonna guard them today? Your little bitch boy Sanders didn't get back here with Gabriel's brother Lucian yet."
Kevin looked down at the boys who were calming the baby as if he was their own child. "They won't go anywhere. They have their first kills under their belts. Besides they know that they can not hide from us." Scott shrugged accepting Kevin's decision as normal and yawning followed his lover out of the room leaving the boys alone with the baby. Eyeing each other they dared not talk knowing that their words would be monitored.
Carefully they left the baby's prison walking down the hall to their room where they turned on the stereo so that it would interfere with the immortal's surveillance of them until it was too late for them to do anything. Getting out a pad of paper Sean jotted down a note as Peter got out a baby carrier strapping it to Sean's back. Then after setting Gabriel inside of it Peter looked at the note reading.
Is everything ready?
Peter nodded and looking out the window saw that the run had come up. Picking a backpack out of the closet he put it on and led Sean through the house. Stopping in the kitchen their grabbed the cooler out of the fridge along with two bottles of water and a baby bottle handing one of the water bottles to Sean and the baby bottle to Gabriel. Then as quietly as possible as to not disturb the wolves which could go out during the way if when wanted although not in their wolf form the two mortals snuck out of the house carrying their precious cargo with them.
Breaking out into a run the boys ran down the road to the abandoned barn two miles away where they had a 1965 Ford Mustang hidden. There they threw their belongings into the backseat and got inside with Peter driving and Sean holding Gabriel in his lap zooming off to what they hoped would be safety. It wasn't until they had driven for a couple hours before they felt it was safe to talk.
"That was too easy," Sean commented and Peter nodded. "I know. I'm sure Kevin knew what we were gonna do. I jus don't know why he would let us get away with it." Rocking Gabriel, who was happily drinking his juice, Sean sighed and shrugged his shoulders. "I dunno man, but I can guarantee you it wasn't out of some kindness of the heart. He must have somethin up his sleeve. What did you bring for money?"
Peter shrugged and sighed. "Well they only had like a thousand bucks between them so I took some of their other things… jewelry mostly. I umm took those pendants that Kevin is always so flipped about." Sean whipped his head around at Peter looking at him astonished. "YOU DID WHAT!"
Peter winced but kept driving with his foot to the floor trying to put as much mileage between them and the freaks they had escaped from as possible. "I dunno man I just… I think the kid told me to." Sean looked down at Gabriel who was now looking up at him calmly and sighed. "Well I hope he knows what the fuck he's doin'. I don't know who this kid is, but I just hope that he remembers that we ain't indestructible." Peter nodded but didn't respond hoping them same thing himself.
"Do we know where we're goin yet?" Sean asked and Peter made a face. "Kinda… the kid showed me a picture in my head of this old farm house and I saw a fight at a bar called The Four Aces." Just as Sean was about to ask another question Gabriel started screaming just as a clawed hand flew in through the window. Sean, who fortunately didn't have his seat belt on turned receiving the claws dug deep into his shoulder and back. With what little strength he had left he rolled the crying baby over the seat to land in the back.
Not sure what to do Peter suddenly swerved the car sharply and looking in the rear view mirror saw Shawn land on the road. Panicked Peter prayed to God, Gabriel and anything else he could think of to just save them. Sean was all he had in the world and he didn't want to lose him all for some baby he didn't even know. Never in his life had he longed to be anything just an ordinary Joe, but yet here he was fighting vampires and werewolves and gargoyle freaks all for some baby that talked to him and showed him pictures all in his head.
"Seany don't leave me please," Peter begged and looked in the backseat seeing Gabe looking at him as he cried. "Kid if you got connections you better use em cause if my Seany dies you're in deep shit. I am not losing him for ANYONE!" As if understanding Gabe closed his eyes and Peter only hoped he was calling in backup, because he had no hopes that Shawn was gonna stay down since he didn't know how he was out in the sun in the first place.
Back at the farmhouse Jeff gasped and the elders who were trying to decide looked at him holding their breaths. "He's in trouble. He's under attack." Marcus and Glenn looked at each other then back to Jeffrey. "Gabriel, kiddo?" Marcus asked and Jeffrey nodded. "The mortals saved him, but they didn't know… the vampire… they didn't know we evolved. They thought they were safe in the sun."
