She sat with her elbows resting on the guard rail watching the matches go by one by one. They were all good matches, but she'd only come to see six men… one of them holding an extra special spot in her heart. Kevin Nash, Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Sean Waltman and Justin Credible were all dear to her, but one man… Scott Hall… was held above the rest. Scott she knew. Not just as a fan knows their hero, but as a sister knows a brother. At one time that was what she'd called him… brother. Her big brother to be exact and she'd loved him like only a little sister could… and then she loved him like a little sister shouldn't.
Reaching up she touched the golden unicorn hanging around her neck. Tightly she closed it within her fist as if drawing strength from it. It was a familiar gesture that anyone who spent much time around her would recognize. She held on to that unicorn like a lifeline when she needed comfort, strength, ot just something as simple as a smile.
When her eyes clouded and filled with tears she would hold onto that unicorn closing her eyes and find herself transported to a different plane and time. Soon the tears would dry and the clouds would disappear from her dark brown eyes. A smile would escape from her lips as if she were hearing a joke being whispered from a ghost in her memories.
When she heard the announcer introduce one of her boys she smiled. Kissing the unicorn she let it drop to her chest and awaited the arrival of X-pac. Sean stepped into the ring and grabbed the mic from Fink. The crowd was shouting their normal X-pac sucks chant and arrogantly he surveyed the crowd pleased with their response. There was one woman though sitting quietly as ringside smiling softly. Seeing her as a challenge, Sean brought the mic to his mouth and looking right at her shouted, "YOU SUCK!"
When the woman only smiled bigger and laughed at him, he found himself intrigued. She didn't look like a ring rat or act like one either. The laugh lit up her face causing her eyes to sparkle and it occurred to Sean that this was one beautiful woman.
When she started pointing at him, Sean wrinkled his brow trying to figure out what she was trying to tell him. When he saw her mouth the words behind you, he closed his eyes and groaned. Turning he was met with a drop kick from a VERY annoyed Randy Orton that sent him over the top rope where he landed at the woman's feet. Opening his eyes he saw her laughing again as everyone else cheered.
After the match as he was picking his beaten ass off the mat he turned to see she was still smiling at him. Hopping over the rope he landed on his feet in front of her. The woman just grinned at him. "Thank you," she mouthed and Sean studied her closely.
"Do I know you?" He asked as curiosity got the best of him.
"No, but I know you… Brat," she replied. As Sean walked back to the locker rooms he wondered how she knew Scott's old nickname for him. Then he tried to remember the last time that his old friend used that word affectionately.
Sean sat in front of his locker trying to remember why he knew the woman when Triple H came in. "The agent says that you were paying more attention to a fan tonight than your match… why?"
Sean sighed and looking at the floor said, "Dunno… she seems familiar."
"Yeah well you aren't here to pick up chicks," Paul snapped and Sean chewed on his lip before responding. "I wasn't trying to pick up someone up," Sean finally replied defensively. "I told you that she looked like someone we know."
"WE?" Paul asked sharply.
"Yeah we as in the Kliq," Sean replied softly. "She called me brat like she knew Scotty used to call me that."
Paul snorted. "He still calls you that."
"But not like he used to," Sean said sadly. "She said it affectionately. Can ya do me a favor?" Paul looked away from Sean. Those big brown eyes still made his heart melt… especially now that they were always so sad. "Sure why not."
"When you go out will you check her out?" Sean asked. "She's mid-ring left side with dark curly hair." Paul nodded and left. He was up next so after making a quick stop to remove his sweats and shirt he moved to the curtain area where Matt Hardy was already waiting.
Matt's music hit first and the Hardy Boy smiled then bounced through the curtain as the crowd cheered. Paul took a deep breath and releasing it slowly let The Game slip into place, but when he heard Lemmy snarl, "time to play the game," he still saw a pair of sad brown eyes in front of his face. Finally he headed out deciding that he wasn't ever going to be more ready.
When he reached ringside the arena was almost deafening with boos. Climbing the steps he headed to the center of the left side and turned. The face before him almost made him swallow his water. Sean was right… they knew her. He just couldn't remember from where. She sat in her seat smiling up at him. The entire arena was crazy with boos, but she sat quietly watching him. He was beautiful, but then beauty was pretty much a Kliq trait.
Matt got impatient from waiting and with a well placed fist to the back knocked Paul off the edge of the ring. Once again the woman found a Kliq member at her feet and laughed. "You know Huntsy, you guys should really pay more attention." Paul gasped at her in shock, but was jerked back to reality by Matt pulling him up by his hair. After the match Paul rolled out of the ring, while Matt posed. Pausing in front of her he asked, "Do we know you?"
"One of you knows my face, but all of you know my name," she said mysteriously. Reluctantly Paul was forced to walk away, but when he walked through the curtain there was a small crowd waiting for him. Scott and Kevin were standing not speaking to each other while Shannon Moore chatted happily pretending that he didn't notice the tension between his friends. Jeff Hardy and Chuck Palumbo were smiling at Shannon's antics. Scott and Shannon were scheduled to wrestle Chuck and Jeff with Kevin as special guest referee.
"Kev… Scotty…" Paul interrupted softly. "There's a chick sittin at ringside left side mid-ring. We know her… the Kliq that is, but I can't place her."
"The Kliq is dead," Kevin said coldly and Sean flinched in pain from the harshness of his friend's tone. Scott looked at Kevin and shot his ex-lover a glare before turning to look at Paul. "Why do you say that we know her?" Scott finally asked.
"She says that one of us knows her face, but we all know her name," Paul replied passing on the woman's strange words. "Alright Chico, I'll check her out," Scott promised. Just then Kevin was announced as his music started sending the fans to their feet.
As he climbed into the ring involuntarily Kevin froze. Right where Paul said that she was sat a girl who certainly looked familiar. It would be interesting to see what would happen when Scotty came out. As Chuck and Jeff bounced into the ring Kevin turned his attention back to his job.
As Scott glided down the ramp with Shannon bouncing at his side, he thought about this woman who'd caused such a stir and wondered who she was. Reaching the ring Scott let Shannon bounce in ahead of him before climbing into the ring. Taking a deep breath Scott turned to the woman and felt the air rush from his body. Kevin watched as Scott's face paled as he looked at this mystery woman. Quickly Scott hopped out of the ring and walked up to this vision at ringside.
"Is it really you?" Scott asked as he took the unicorn charm that he'd boughten her long ago into his hand. "It's me," she confirmed smiling as she reached up to touch his stubbled jaw. Just at that second Chuck yanked on Scott's arm and as Scott turned from the force the fragile chain snapped. Shocked Scott looked down at his hand and seeing the charm there saw red. As the bell rung Scott punched Chuck in the face.
The match didn't go much better. Eventually Shannon tagged himself in, but unfortunately by then Chuck was in rough shape. Not even watching the match once outside the roped, Scott stared at the woman intensely sure that she'd disappear if he took his eyes off of her. In his palm the charm dug into his skin as he squeezed it tightly as if it were his lifeline.
The second the bell rung again signaling the end of the match, Scott was off the apron and standing in front of her. The woman stood and when Scott wrapped his arms around her she found herself lifted into the air. Determined Scott carried her to the back and while they were shocked no one was dumb enough to try and stop him.
A half hour later the two were speeding away from the arena in her car with Scott behind the wheel. The woman sat next to him running her fingers over his hairline as he shuddered praying he'd never lose her again.
