“Damn it, Matt,” Adam said, looking at his mate. “You know why I don’t want you going off on your own…” Matt turned and glared at Adam. “I won’t be on my own,” he said angrily. “That’s something you make sure of every night. If I could be on my own, even for one minute, I might not want to do this.” Adam placed his hand on Matt’s shoulder. “Matty, my love, I can’t help it if I worry about you,” he said with a look of concern on his face. Matt rolled his eyes and jerked away from Adam. “I am a grown man,” Matt said, “and I have been for….” he stopped to think.

Shannon walked into the room and immediately felt the tension. He turned to leave, but stopped when he heard Matt’s voice. “You don’t have to leave, little one,” he said. Adam had not seen or heard Shannon enter, even though he was right in front of him. “How did you know Shannon was here?” Adam asked Matt. Again, Matt rolled his eyes at Adam. “I’ve been trying to tell you for months now…don’t you ever listen to me?” Matt asked. Shannon reached out and placed his hand on Matt’s back.

“Matt,” Shannon whispered. Matt felt the warmth and love in Shannon’s touch. But, there was something else there as well. Suddenly, Sean appeared in the room. “What’s up, little one?” he asked, wrapping an arm around Shannon. Shannon leaned back into Sean’s strong arms and sighed. Adam was looking at the trio with wonder - and a vague hint of jealousy.

Over the last few months, ever since they had almost lost Matt and Jeff, Matt had spent a lot of time with the pair. When Adam would ask what they had done, Matt would shrug his shoulders and turn away. There was some serious tension there, but Adam thought it would pass eventually. He had been so afraid of losing Matt that once he had recovered, Adam never let him out of his sight for more than a few minutes, and had instructed the others to do the same.

Matt opened his eyes and looked at Adam. “All I want is to go out with Shannon and Sean for one night,” he said. “Is that too much to ask?” Adam looked at him. “I don’t think it’s a good idea,” Adam said again. “I’ll go with you.” Shannon jerked away from Matt when he felt the anger welling up inside him. “NO!” he shouted. Adam recoiled from the venom in Matt’s voice. “Don’t you understand what I’ve been trying to tell you??” he asked. “Have you heard a thing I’ve said?”

Again, Adam tried to reach out and place his arm around Matt, only to be pushed away. “If you need to feed that badly, Matt, I’ll go out and get someone for you,” Adam stated. “That’s not the point, LOVE,” Matt said. The emphasis he placed on the last word spoke volumes. “I don’t need to feed,” he said. Adam was confused. “Then what is it?” he asked Matt. “Tell me what you need, and I’ll go get it for you.” Matt looked into Adam’s eyes, his own turning black with anger. “What I need is to do something for myself for once,” he began. “I need to go out and have some fun. I need to spend time with my brothers.” Adam nodded. “I understand that,” he said.

Matt breathed deeply, thankful that Adam finally realized what he was saying. “Let me just get Jeff and Jay, and we’ll go,” Adam said. Matt whirled around. “No, Adam,” he said. “I don’t want them to go, I don’t want you to go.” Sean stepped forward and took Matt’s hand, trying to calm him. With a look that reflected centuries of pain, Adam turned his head away and said, “fine, Matt. Go. You’re right, you are a grown man. I was just trying to protect you…protect the one I love.” Adam began to break down.

Matt looked at him, and sighed. “I know, Addy,” he said, placing a small kiss on Adam’s cheek. “But, you have to let me go sometime.” Matt turned to Shannon and grabbed his hand. “Let’s get ready, Shan,” he said and left the room. Sean knew that Adam was hurting. He walked over and placed his head against Adam’s shoulder.

Adam’s chest heaved slightly and Sean knew he was crying. “It’s okay, Ad,” he said softly, rubbing his hand down Adam’s strong back. Adam turned to look at him. “Why, Sean?” he asked. “Why does he hate me? I’ve done nothing but love and protect him.” Sean looked into Adam’s eyes and reached up to wipe the tears from his cheeks. “He doesn’t hate you,” Sean said. Adam shook his head in protest. Sean continued, “he loves you, and he knows that you love him. But, it’s been three months, Adam. You can’t keep him caged up like that. He’s going to go crazy, and when he loses it, we’ll lose him.”

“I love him more than anything,” Adam said to Sean. “He knows that,” Sean said. “But there is such a thing as loving him too much.” Adam tried to smile. If there was one thing he knew, it was that. Suddenly, Sean’s eyes narrowed as he looked at Adam. “Do you trust me?” he asked. The look of shock registered on Adam’s face. “Of course I trust you,” he said, looking down at Sean. “Do you trust Shannon?” Adam nodded. Sean smiled at him. “Then trust us with Matt,” Sean said. “We’ll protect him.”

Adam started to answer when he was interrupted by the sound of feet pounding down the stairs. Matt and Shannon appeared in the doorway. Shannon was wearing his baggy jeans and a tight mesh shirt; Matt was dressed in tight leather pants and a velvet shirt. Both had their hair pulled back. They were so beautiful that Adam thought his heart would break. He looked back at Sean and said, “okay.”

Sean walked over to the pair in the doorway and looked back at Adam. “We’ll be fine,” Sean said. He nudged Matt forward. Matt walked to Adam and kissed him. “Don’t worry about me,” he said. “Nothing’s going to happen. I love you.” He started to walk away when Adam grabbed him and held him tightly. “Be careful, Matt,” he said. Matt smiled at him and kissed him one more time. “I will, love,” Matt said, then turned to walk out.

Adam watched as the trio left the house. Jeff and Jay entered the room and looked at him. The sadness on Adam’s face made Jay’s heart break. He walked to Adam and wrapped his arms around him. “It’s going to be fine, Adam,” he whispered softly. Jeff came up in front of Adam and placed his arm around him as well, laying his head on Adam’s chest. Adam leaned his head down onto Jeff’s and sighed. “Maybe I should follow them,” he said. Jeff raised up and looked deep into Adam’s eyes.

“No, Adam,” he said gently. Jay looked at Jeff over Adam’s shoulder and immediately understood what Jeff was thinking. “Stay with us,” Jeff whispered, leaning down to gently bite Adam’s nipple. A wave of heat coursed through Adam’s body. Jay began to slowly grind his erection into Adam’s hip.

Adam smiled down at Jeff, then reached behind his back and grabbed Jay. “You forced me into it,” Adam said, breaking away and leading the other two up the stairs. If Matt was going out on the prowl, at least Adam would have something to distract him.
